Gemalto successfully led the MOVIES project that was awarded the Silver prize by Eureka, an intergovernmental body supporting innovation in Europe. The submission for the Celtic Excellence Awards competition was done in collaboration with several industrial and academic European partners, all part of the Celtic MOVIES (Mobile Video and Interactive Services) program.
Mobile TV actors often need secure interaction with programming schedule for services such as TV voting for example. Gemalto has used an innovative remote SIM communication channel combined with a mobile TV application to make this a reality.
This new massive SIM update technology can connect with several million SIM subscribers and update their content in a few seconds. This is possible thanks to the broadcast channel that performs the SIM provisioning in addition to the traditional OTA channel capacity.
This revolutionary approach provides operators and mobile TV broadcasters speed and robustness when running a campaign for their subscribers. It brings a quick update of the SIM based applications and contributes to subscribers’ service uptake, better administration and security management by the operator.
A successful update of Mobile TV SIMs was achieved using a DVB-H signal broadcast over the city of Luxemburg in December 2008.
