The study showed that the Internet has become an integral part of daily lives: regardless of the country, people go online every day.

Need for security…to be free

Currently, Internet has become part of our daily lives. Indeed, people surf the Internet, bank and buy things online every days or at least several times a week.

Eighty per cent of the respondents stated that they check their bank accounts online at least once a month. Two thirds check it once a week or more and a similar proportion shop online at least once a month, indicating that e-banking and e-commerce have become routine for many people.

Shopping: Little and often

The Gemalto study confirms that online shopping is a frequent activity across all countries. Many people say they shop online at least once a month, although they seldom spend more than €100 at a time.

How often do you check your bank account and purchase on line?

Surfing the Internet is the occasion for many internet users to check their bank account and to purchase online:
> 1 out of 4 checks his bank account daily;
> 66% purchase online more than once a month.

How much do you spend on purchases on line per month?

The amount spent per month for online purchases remains reasonable - below 100€ on average - but with some differences between countries (Americans and Brazilians are used to spend more than other respondents for instance).

As means of payments are concerned, credit card became unavoidable being used by almost everybody. Online wallet solutions (Paypal, Google Checkout…) are the only real alternatives to pay online.
