Gemalto Brings USB Flash Drives Back to Government with the SG FIPS

USB flash drives can be a very convenient way to transfer and share data. However, for government employees they were historically an insecure way to carry around information that is often sensitive or confidential. In November 2008, after USB flash drives introduced viruses into its networks, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) took the step to completely ban their use.

Today, Gemalto is bringing USB flash drives back to government with a new, completely secure flash drive, the Protiva™ Smart Guardian (SG) FIPS. The smart card-based SG FIPS is a zero-footprint secure flash drive, certified and ready to protect the mobile data of U.S. government employees.

The SG FIPS is designed to meet the requirements set forth by the DoD, has been FIPS-140-2 certified, and meets Military Standard 810-F environmental standards. It also offers additional security and interoperability with federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials.
